OK..We're back from our 2-week computer problem..I'm sure you guys REALLYmissed us*:jerk:.(BTW I notice alot of changes on the site GREAT JOB! )...What was the problem you ask?..well the modem went out...no biggie right?..wrong.Took it to Best Buy where we got it..under warranty for 2-3 more years its only 5 months old.. they did their Diagnostic test on it and confirmed it was a software problem NOt a hardware problem..which I thought was bullshit from the start...Here's the scam!!! hardware is covered software is not*...they said they could fix it. FOR
..200$$$...I said FUCK YOU!...went round and round with different managers or should I say "children"...finally taking the computer back home with me to call GATEWAY and see if they had a solution or could help...they said that software isnt covered under their warranty either but, it was HIGHLY unlikely it was even software related, either your modem works or it doesnt*...they sent me a new modem NO CHARGE... I plugged it in and here I am back home @ TheBikerSite.com

Do I sue the cocksuckers? and if so, for what?..I'm mega-pissed off! And to top it off it obviously WAS a hardware problem!..covered under warranty*
gimme some input people!

Sue them for what.... being stupid? Unfortunately being stupid, as bad as it is, is not a crime or a civil liability.

I have found when dealing with corporate America a tersely worded letter works the best. Ranting phone calls, emails, and personal confrontations with the teen goober in the blue shirt at the store are pretty much useless.

Thanks Pete, I allready knew 100% that would be your response. And I agree and understand completely. I just wanted to get some feedback from members.I guess it just angers me that they've probably taken advantage of so many people that do NOT know better.First lying about the problem and then Charge'n $200 for something they damn well know is fixable in 2 mins. And, the education of the people supposedly there to "help"you is becoming so poor that it's troubling. Thanks again, I'm off to write some letters just for piece of mind*.

Yea I worry about that too because with technology being the way it is so many people have to trust because they just don't know.

Last weekend on my way back up here from Florida where I missed Corneo because my plans changed and I ended up going through his town at 3 am, I stopped in and saw my folks. dad wanted a new cell phone and he liked mine so I went with him to the Verizon store. He told the chick "I want to be able to get pics off the phone without having to email them to myself at 25 cents a peice." she said you only need a USB cable and it comes in this "Music essentials package" for $29. So we got it and got home and I open it and install the software, hook up the phone and nothing. It will not let you see pics, only music.

I put it back in the box and go immediately to Verizon and tell the new lady there it does not do what the other woman said it would. The manager comes over and says "It is software and it is open so we can't take it back." I said "BULLSHIT, YOUR person was told exactly what we wanted, YOUR person said this would do it, it does not do what YOUR person said it would I don't want it. Now how are YOU going to fix this? " and then I gave him the glare.

He ended up giving me 2 micro sims and 2 readers for $20, original retail was $120.

I can tell you from Pepsi (where I work) that if we get a snail mail letter, shit hits the fan. They ignore just about everything else, but that.

I use to write mail to every company out there with a stupid bitch, just to get free shit. LOL (my grandmother taught me that trick)

I went to the geek squad myself with my gateway for the same fucking problem. (modem)
This is what I learned: BestBuy doesn't honor gateway claim tickets. I had to find a CompUSA to get it fixed for free. (warranty)

But the losers at the store I went to had a brain and showed me where the XP program will change your modem settings (on Gateways) without you knowing it making people think the modem is broke. They set it back and all is fine now.
Gateway doesn't want people to know it has this fuck up so they just send a new modem (it cost them pennies to do) and disc that fixes the problem without you knowing it.

When i had this problem, I called Jeffro (the main tech guy) about how to fix it and he reamed me a new ass for buying a PC and told me if it's not a MAC it sucks. Don't bug him with stupid problems for PC. (ouch)

Now you know why I bought a MAC. I have had no problems with it and if something goes wrong, it tells me what the problem is and how to fix it. When I call up my internet service because i lose my connection as soon I say I'm using a MAC, they say. What does your diagnostic say?

Do you know how nice it is not to go throw the fucking hoops of "turn off your modem, restart the comp.

MAC's Rock!

**side note** There are no virus protection programs for MAC's. Why? Because a program has to get OK'd by the user before it will install. Someday Windows will have that, but not this year. LOL

So yea ...the girl that sold us the computer package sold us on the extended warranty too. She says it will cover everything under the sun blah blah blah. (shame on her for her levity as far as explaining the contract was concerned-shame on me for not reading the contract more thoroughly). We were also led to believe that this contract would cover the monitor ..kb ...etc. Geek guy says that the contracts were changing or had already changed around the time we purchased the comp. I says bullshit to that. What kinda answer is that?

I can understand why they wouldnt cover software issues. Thats not exactly rocket science.

Heres where I believe the scam falls into play. Its when ya take ya comp in to be "diagnosed". They can tell ya pretty much whatever they damn well please. Had their "diagnosis" been correct and true, they wouldve put in a new modem (as promised) since this is considered to be hardware.

Can you imagine the amount of people that are being taken advantage of by this everyday? Bad bad business ethics to be sure. We'll never buy from BestBuy again.

Oh!And heres another kicker! The printer we purchased with the comp took a shit too. Its being repaired as I speak. Mind you this whole setup is only 5 months old.

As far as Gateway goes ..we chose that brand cos thats we've always used. Hell, the comp we had before this one was 6-7yrs old and we NEVER had to take it in to get serviced/repaired.

Theres more but I think ya'll get the general idea.

So far as I can tell, the new Windows asks before anything can be installed.* Hell, it even asks me if its ok to run the defrag.

*I could be wrong ...I'll havta ask Shep.

The problem with windows systems is: if a email comes with a .EXE file. Most likely it will cause problems. .EXE means auto run for windows. MAC's don't have .EXE files. (well, EXE won't run on them.) So viruses can't work on MAC's like they can with windows.

From the normal consumer there's no difference between the two. When they brake down, that's when you see the difference. From a person running a web site, you really see the difference. Like all the new changes on the main page. Very hard to do on a PC. Very easy on a MAC.
